The Skyhawks defeated the Red Storm 68-54 at Durango, Colo.
In the first half, the Red Storm (0-1) was plagued by the shooting bug, only shooting 28.6 percent from field.
Fort Lewis seemed to have it together from the start, shooting 42.9 percent in the first half to lead 31-23.
In the second half, DSC seemed to get in rhythm and cut the Fort Lewis lead to one point on a Veronica Siqueiros 3-pointer with 17:34 left.

The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team - the No. 5 team in the United States - finally played a game in Colorado.
After three wins in California and one win in New Mexico, the Skyhawks made their home-state debut Friday night in Durango against Dixie State College of Utah.
The Skyhawks won 68-54 on their home court in a frustrating game that left coach Mark Kellogg thinking the Skyhawks had played on Mars.

Dixie State College's literary journal, The Southern Quill, is calling for DSC students to contribute their poetry for possible inclusion in the publication's 2010 edition.
All students who submit poems will also receive consideration for scholarships funded by the Annie Atkin Tanner Memorial program.
The Tanner program was established in 1972 by Dr. Vasco M. Tanner to honor his wife Annie.

Four months after Stephen Jackson arrived in Golden State in January 2007, the Warriors won their first playoff series in 16 years.
They went 48-34 the following season, their best record in 14 years.

Visits from overseas (not including Mexico and Canada) were off 6 percent in August and 9 percent for the year.
Of the top 20 countries sending visitors to the United States, 11 sustained decreases for the month of August, with five of these declines hitting double-digit levels.
Along with Mexico, China , Brazil and the Bahamas posted double-digit increases.

The Hawai'i-Hilo women's volleyball team moved up a spot to No. 19 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division IITop 25 released yesterday.
Concordia-St. Paul (21-0) was a unanimous No. 1, receiving all 32 first-place votes.
Cal State San Bernardino (18-0) is No. 2, followed by UC San Diego (18-1).
